New Portrait

April 13, 2018

This is a commission for one of my good friends.  I approached the canvas without a background (won't do that again) and began with a charcoal sketch.  I limited my palette based on Rembrandt's which gave me surprisingly realistic flesh tones without too much difficulty.  I also added a few natural collage elements.

I included a Naples Yellow and a Phthalocyanine Green which I'm trying to incorporate.  The whole background needs to be knocked back and the hands need revision.  The cactus vein needs to be more firmly attached to the canvas and I'm considering an oil based gold spray paint (still brainstorming on this).  I'll post the final version once it's completed.
